It has been a long time coming, but the BIG moment is finally here! As some of you may already know, we have been getting everything lined up for a name change for our wedding photography business. We have been operating as Southern Wedding Photography for several years now, and feel that our new name, Flying Pig Photography, will convey our philosophy of striving for excellence in everything we do. Southern Wedding Photography has a great reputation, thanks to all of our wonderful clients, so we will keep the site intact and refer people to the new website. Miranda and I want to THANK YOU for all of your support, and your many referrals!

Wedding at Wofford College - reception at The Westin Poinsett in Greenville, SC - Megan & Chris

We first met Megan and Chris last December at Joanne and Matt's wedding and we were super excited about the chance to work with them and their friends again! Megan started the day out at the Westin Poinsett hotel in downtown Greenville.

After Megan and the girls had a relaxing morning of hair and makeup, we headed to Wofford College for the wedding.

Don't the guys just look so darn cool in the school desks?

The ceremony was wonderfully personal and filled with emotion as Megan and Chris shared some of the many qualities they love and appreciate about one another.

The reception was held at the beautiful Westin Poinsett.

A mini photo session on the rooftop of the Poinsett....

The color-coordinated candy buffet was one of the best we've seen. And, I mean, Key Lime saltwater taffy.....does it get any yummier than that?

and now, it was time to dance! Hit Mob 7 provided the entertainment and they were fabulous!
The party was upbeat and energetic and the dance floor was packed until the very end of the night....

Outdoor wedding at the Corley Mill House in Lexington, SC - Laura & Shane

Laura and Shane had a beautiful wedding at the Corley Mill House, near Columbia South Carolina. There was a atmosphere of anticipation and excitement filling the rooms as the bride and groom were each preparing to join themselves in marriage! The ceremony was held outdoors, behind the house at the gazebo. The beautiful landscaping and wooded backdrop, makes this a perfect place to have a wedding, and provides a real sense of seclusion in nature. The bright red colors selected for the wedding party, created beautiful contrast with the vibrant green surroundings.
The reception was held inside at the same location, where the newlyweds joined their friends and family in dancing, eating, and celebration. At the end of the evening, Laura and Shane rushed to their decorated car, as guests showered them with bubbles. The look on their faces said it all; they appear to be very happy together!

Wedding near Hendersonville/Asheville North Carolina - Bridgett & Tyler

It was nice to see and work for Bridgett and Tyler again! I had the opportunity to photograph their engagement session earlier this year near Bridgett's home near Hendersonville, North Carolina. The wedding ceremony was held at Mountain Valley Baptist Church, in Zirconia, NC. I could tell that the bride and groom were, and are, well loved because the church was absolutely packed! I had to remove my camera bag from a seat in the back because the guests kept pouring in; that usually doesn't happen. Bridgett was wearing a pair of boots, which added an element of her personality to the day. You may also notice a sign in book the features images from their engagement session; that was a first for me, but I hope to do many more!

The reception was held down the road at a beautiful outdoor location, where we were able to get some terrific images of Bridgett and Tyler with the North Carolina mountains in the background. They are in Aruba as I write this, so I am sure that they will have many more spectacular views in the days to come.

Megan's Bridal Session at Cotton Mill Place near The Loom - Simpsonville SC

Miranda and I had a blast getting to hang out with Megan for her bridal session! We found many portrait-worthy locations within the beautiful building at Cotton Mill Place in Simpsonville, South Carolina. We also got to talk to Megan more about her work as a visual artist. We came to meet Megan at a friend's wedding in December, where she was in the wedding party, and also had some of her paintings featured at the reception! Engagement Photography in Greenville South Carolina - Fetauring Angie & DJ

Angie and DJ wanted to do an engagement session that would incorporate photography that was more about them and their relationship, than the typical "pretty pictures", that didn't mean as much to them. As you may have already guessed, Angie and DJ are very much in love, and they share a love for sports as well! DJ played professional football for a number of years, so it was only fitting to have the old pigskin featured within the e-session. Angie works with athletes at JL Mann High School, in Greenville, South Carolina, and she is very passionate about what she does. After we "played" a while on the ball fields at JL Mann High, we headed to downtown Greenville to create some more moody, romantic images. One of my favorites in the image of DJ and Angie on the street corner embracing as cars sped past! Miranda and I are looking forward to photographing their wedding in October. We truly feel like we have the best couples of all engagement and wedding photographers in South Carolina! We hope you love the photographs : )

Engagement photography session near Atlanta, Georgia - Charlotte & Aaron

Last week we headed to Atlanta, GA to shoot Charlotte and Aaron's engagement session. We used the picturesque campus of Charlotte's alma mater, Agnes Scott College, as a backdrop. The Gothic and Victorian architecture helped make for some great photos. We had such a blast getting to know Charlotte and Aaron, seeing how their opposite personalities make them perfect for each other.

Charlotte and Aaron decided to incorporate a treasured book in some of their photos. This copy of Winnie the Pooh has been in Aaron's family for a long time, and when Charlotte was going through a difficult time and Aaron was many miles away, he would read it to her over the phone, helping them feel like they were together. Is that sweet or what? Come on Aaron, now you're just making all the other guys look bad : )

We had a great time getting to know the two of you and we are looking forward to photographing your wedding in Augusta, GA next January!

Wedding and reception at Kilgore Lewis House in Greenville, South Carolina - Matt & Jenni

Jenni and Matt got married at the Kilgore-Lewis house in Greenville, SC. And seriously, it was a FABULOUS day for a wedding! Beautiful skies, warm weather, nice breeze, flowers blooming....... this is getting to be a trend for us here with all the outdoor weddings with perfect weather! We really enjoyed getting to know Jenni and Matt, as we met with them in the early wedding planning, and then photographed their engagement session and Jenni's bridal session. They incorporated lots of fun into the wedding celebration.

Jenni makes me want to get MY own signature color...... hers is red. She has a red car, red shoes, red toenails, and a red purse. So, of course, she incorporated it into her wedding with red bridesmaid dresses, red flowers in the bouquets, and delicious red punch at the reception. More about that red punch later.......

The cake was designed by Holly's Cakes, located in Belton, South Carolina . Gorgeous, isn't it?

Jenni and her sister/maid of honor, Allison, rocked the reception with a fun choreographed dance.......

Matt and Jenni danced the last song of the evening to Achy-Breaky Heart, complete with a faux mullet for Matt!

And I just have to say, I literally talked about the punch and those chicken salad croissants for the entire week following the wedding. Actually, I still wish I had another one right now........ That delicious food and best-punch-I-have-ever-tasted, was prepared and served by Ann's Cakes & Catering, in Travelers Rest, SC.

Matt and Jenni, we have enjoyed the chance to get to know you and your families very much. Thank you for allowing us to capture your day!

Outdor Wedding at the SC Botanical Gardens, Reception at Occasions ar Wedgefield - April & Sean

April and Sean's beautiful outdoor wedding was held at the SC Botanical Gardens, in Clemson, South Carolina. The lovely spring weather seemed to suit April and Sean's relaxed personalities.

After the ceremony we headed to Occasions at Wedgefield for the reception. It is such a pleasure to work with their event coordinator, Cynthia.

When I saw this cake, by Kathy & Company, I think my jaw dropped. The sugar flowers decorating it, were perfect. And the cake was mighty good, I might add!

The wedding topper was a great unique touch. April and Sean had it custom made to match the characters they use when they play video games together. Much cuter than my Wii person, for sure!

Carolina Party Professionals provided musical entertainment for the guests; George was great fun to work with, and got everyone dancing after dinner, he even busted some moves himself!

At dusk, we headed outside and got some fabulous sunset shots. I think they turned out quite stunning!

Bridal Portraits at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina

Jenni wanted a beautiful outdoor location for her bridal photography session, so after much research she settled on the pristine campus of Furman University in Greenville SC. As you can see from the photography, we covered quite a bit of ground on the campus. We started at the Cherrydale Alumni House, where we did some formal, more traditional bridal portraits. Then we headed to a beautiful location that featured a water fountain, and a large grouping of tulips as our background. Finally, we headed north within the campus to the very spectacular lake and Bell Tower! We created a few images around the lake before we settled on the tower for our final sunset images. Jenni really wanted to have some great photographs showcasing the sunset, and I think we really were able to capture the beauty of the evening quite well. And, oh yeah, Jenni does indeed wear her sunglasses at night!

Outdoor spring wedding at Vecoma in Snelville Georgia - Joy & Robert

What a special wedding this was! Robert and Joy's ceremony and reception were held at Vecoma at the Yellow River in Snellville, GA. This venue is a real hot-spot for weddings in Atlanta , and was showcased beautifully by the perfect spring weather we enjoyed. You can almost see Stone Mountain from there! This was our first time photographing a Hebrew ceremony and it was deeply moving. I have been so excited to share the details of this wedding on the blog, because it was so unique and spiritual.

One of the unique aspects that you will notice, is that Joy used a variety of colors in the wedding, representing the variety of promises God has given and the uniqueness of the friends and family members that have helped shape the couple's lives.

and how cute is this? Joy and her friends were so much fun! They had this great idea for a "Charlie's Angels" pose with flowers instead of guns (of course!)

The Rabbi began the ceremony by playing the shofar. The sound was so beautiful, it gave me chills!

The bride and groom exchanged their vows under the chuppah, which represents the protection of God over his people and the home that Robert and Joy are creating together.

Robert read the Ketubah to Joy. This is a written marriage covenant of the promises he is making to her as her husband.

Joy and Robert poured salt into a vase together, representing combining their lives together. And just as their own grains of salt could never be separated out again, their lives will be interwoven.

This was one of my favorite aspects of the Hebrew ceremony. During the ceremony, Joy and Robert walked in circles around the other, representing promises that they are making to one another.

After drinking wine from the glass, Robert steps on it, representing the sacred bond between the two of them alone.

That is one happy girl!

Another fun group picture. This wedding party had great timing. I think they only had to jump twice.

Is this a gorgeous cake or what?

There were tons of great spots for a mini photo session this venue. Just beautiful!

Outdoor Engagement Session in North Carolina mountains - Bridgett & Tyler

Bridgett and Tyler did just the sort of thing that I try to encourage for an engagement session (or any session for that matter); they incorporated some key elements from their relationship and personalities. We started out the session at Bridgett's homestead, located in the North Carolina mountains. The couple featured horses, who are a huge part of each of their lives! We took advantage of the "magic light" that can only be had on the edges of the daylight, and in the spring and fall. Tyler and Bridgett love the outdoors, so we headed down the road a mile or two to a beautiful location that featured a river and a magnificent waterfall! Then for the grand finale, we went back up the road, again for only a few miles, to a spectacular scenic overlook, where Tyler had actually proposed! I don't think an engagement session can get much better than this; but TRY ME : )

Besutiful Spring wedding at Lutheran church Of Our Savior, Reception at Larkins on the River, in Greenville,SC - Katrina and AJ

It was a perfect spring day and AJ and Katrina decided to go the less traditional route by seeing each other before the walk down the aisle, and we were SO glad they did. They met to see each other for the first time under a beautiful blooming pear tree behind The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Taylors, South Carolina. What a moment, as you can clearly see! It was without a doubt one of the BEST and most emotional moments that we have had the privilege to capture on a wedding day. Seriously, I could almost hear the angels singing. I can’t say enough about how great it is for a couple to see each other for the first time in such a meaningful and intimate way. And on top of that, we got to go ahead and do all of their formal family photos before the ceremony, which allowed AJ and Katrina to go straight to their reception afterward. As a matter of fact, they arrived at the reception before some of their guests. Did I say awesome?
The reception was held at Larkins on the River in Downtown Greenville and not surprisingly at all, it was a blast! We just loved watching AJ and Katrina dance together; they obviously have a lot of fun together, have great chemistry, and reallyknow how to dance. (This we have deep appreciation for, because we do not know how to dance!) And we have to mention the beautiful cake – it was done by Art Eats Bakery.
Thank you so much AJ and Katrina for allowing us to capture your wedding day. It has been an absolute pleasure working with the two of you!

Westin Poinsett Wedding - Greenville South Carolina - Ashley & Noah!

Ashley and Noah were married on February 5th; they had the reception and wedding at the Westin Poinsett Hotel in Greenville, South Carolina. I spent some time photographing the bride and her bridesmaids getting ready, and then had the opportunity to create some stunning photography of Ashley around the hotel. One of my favorites, is the image of her striking a pose near one of the columns near the lobby - Gorgeous!!! My assistant, Will, spent some time with the groom and the fellas; I especially love one image that he created while Noah was on the phone near the window - Great job Will! As you may have already figured out, Ashley and Noah featured their little dog, Daisy, in the ceremony; I think this was a first for me - I loved it! The newlyweds had a big surprise for all of their guests at the reception, which was the appearance of, none other than Elvis impressionist, Tom Barlett. He really put on a good performance. After the happy couple exited through a wash of pink rose petals, I was able to create some classic photographs of them alone. Even though we had to persuade security to let us do so, we were allowed on the roof to take a few final images. Super couple, great families and friends, and we got some super images : )
I have got to be one of the luckiest wedding photographers in South Carolina!

Engagement Photography in Spartanburg, SC - Jenni & Matt

Jenni and Matt had to postpone their engagement photography session up a week due to a small winter storm here in South Carolina. I think we were so focused on hoping and praying for no rain or snow this time, that we forgot to request a bit of warmth to help us out! We started out the session at a small park in Landrum, South Carolina. Matt and Jenni used to meet here due to their being seperated by about an hours drive; they would sometimes eat at a local restaurant, but would often go to the park to walk and talk. I love it when couples incorporate meaningful locations into their portrait sessions; in my opinion it results in far more significant images. After we left the park, we headed to Hatcher Gardens in Spartanburg to finish up. Jenni spoke many times of really wanting a sunset incorporated into the session, and the clouds did break just enough to show a bit of color as we were creating the last few photographs.

Despite the very chilly afternoon, Matt and Jenni were extremely happy just being together and having photos created that reflect their relationship.

Winter Wedding at Daniel Chapel at Furman University - Joanne & Matt

My wife and I met the girls early in the morning at the Westin Poinsett Hotel in Greenville, to completely cover the story of Joanne's wedding day experience. First we headed to Dimitra Designs where the girls had hair and make-up done, then back to the Westin Hotel for what was the fastest wardrobe changes I have ever seen (Actually, I didn't see it, but I only waited outside of the room for a few minutes)! Then I captured a few images of everyone in front of the hotel, and we all headed to an RV to be taken to the church. The wedding ceremony was held at Daniel Chapel on the campus of Furman University, and was performed by Matt's father; I think it is especially meaningful when a parent actually joins one of their children in marriage! After the ceremony, the entire wedding party (and myself) piled into the RV to be taken to the reception which was held at the Hellenic Center at St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, near downtown Greenville. Family and friends (and there were a lot of them) enjoyed a buffet meal and dancing to celebrate Joanne and Matt becoming husand and wife. The newleyweds enjoyed music and singing by Matt's brother, Andy Lehman, as they danced the last dance for the evening; and as a musician myself, I was super impressed by that performance! Finally, Matt and Joanne rushed through a shower of bubbles created by cheering guests, as they made their way to their well-decorated car to head away.

What fun! What a great couple! You will see them here again , so stay tuned!

Fall Wedding - First Baptist Church, Anderson, and Reception at the Anderson Civic Center : Lindsey and Travis

I really do love fall weddings; the theme almost always works itself into the decor of the wedding, and the colors are bold and beautiful! I had the pleasure of photographing Lindsey's brother's wedding a few years back, and I felt truly honored to be able to work with the Whitfield family again. They are very nice people! Lindsey and Travis held their wedding ceremony at the First Baptist Church in downtown Anderson, South Carolina. The church was magnificent and beautiful, featuring a skyward reaching steeple and columns, to a curved balcony, and several large chandeliers inside. The minister was also a long-time friend of the family, which made the service even more special to Travis and Lindsey.
The reception was held at the Anderson Civic Center, where the couple shared a wonderful meal with their guests, and enjoyed music which was provided by Robert, from Life of the Party DJ's. The ring-bearer, which was Lindsey's nephew, took some of the spotlight while the newlyweds enjoyed their "First Dance";not to be concerned, the couple didn't seem to mind sharing the floor. I also loved the parents dancing with the new bride and groom, especially the "Father-Daughter dance", I am sure you can understand why! We were able to create a few romantic images of Travis and Lindsey outside, using the unique architecture of the Civic Center as a backdrop. Near the end of the evening, the couple exited the building into a spectacular display of sparklers held by guests as they cheered the couple on. Pretty Cool!

Bridal Portrait Session at the Kilgore-Lewis House in Greenville, SC - Lindsey!

Lindsey wanted her bridal portraits to feature all of the splendor of Autumn, so we knew we wanted to take some images outside showcasing the fall leaves. We headed to the Kilgore Lewis house in Greenville, South Carolina, which provided beautiful scenery outside, as well as marvelous classic interior settings as well! We had a good bit of fun just exploring different areas where we thought the lighting was good, and would be good for a portrait. One of my favorite images shows Lindsey on the couch with the train of her dress flowing towards the camera; I love her long beautiful train!

Mommy & Baby Portraits at Furman University - South Carolina

Ashley and Riley have so much fun together! You can tell that Riley is the apple of her mommy's eye, so I knew I wanted to try and capture that fact in the images that I created for them. We headed to Furman University despite looming dark clouds, and rain falling as we drove to the campus. The wait had been too long, as Ashley and I kept projecting dates around our hectic schedules to have the session done; the wait paid off! Riley's independence, and desire to remind us of it, kept her from posing in a sitting position for more than a second. We opted to just let her explore with her mom, and I think we came away with some great photographs! Thanks Ashley and Riley, I had a lot of fun; I hope you did too!

Beautiful Fall wedding at the Marion Hatcher Center in Augusta, GA. Congratulations Elizabeth & Chris!

Elizabeth and Chris had their wedding ceremony at the Marion Hatcher Center, in Augusta Georgia. It was a beautiful fall day, and even though the wedding was held inside, the window lit room provided a real sense of the environment outside! The ceremony included a lighting of a unity candle to symbolize two lives joining into one. As Chris and Elizabeth started down the aisle as husband and wife, I captured a great images as Elizabeth gave her mom sort of a high five hand shake! Following the nuptials, we headed outside to the grand staircases in front of the venue, where we created some great images of the families and the wedding party. At the reception, music was provided by Bill Tolbert with BTS Productions. You won't see a ton of people on the dance floor, because the guests there consisted of only the closest family members and friends of the couple. I think there is much to be said about having a smaller intimate wedding!

Wedding in Pendleton South Carolina - Sarah & Chris

Sarah and Chris were married on October 24th, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Pendleton South Carolina. Despite the forecast for rain, it was an absolutely beautiful autumn day! The colors of fall seemed to provide the perfect surrounding for the small historic church, featuring bright red doors in the front. Although we were not allowed inside during the ceremony, the door seemed to be conveniently left open for us to capture images from a distance; I was thankful for that! After Chris and Sarah walked out of the church as husband and wife, they spent some time alone just walking together outside. I thought it was awesome that they took time out immediately for each other, to reflect on the vows they just took, and the new chapter of life they were starting together - I think this time provided them with some of the best images of the day too! The reception was held on the grounds of the magnificent Woodburn historic home (c1830) in Pendleton, SC. Chris gave a wonderful speech that made a lot of people laugh and cry - I love it!!!

Wedding at Wintergreen Woods in Lexington South Carolina - Stephanie and Alan

Yet another gorgeous outdoor October wedding!!!

Stephanie and Alan had a beautiful wedding on October 18th, at Wintergreen Woods, in Lexington South Carolina. The October weather was just perfect for an outdoor event; they could not have picked a better day! The couple included their adorable baby boy, who apparently decided at the very last minute that he did not want to be happily involved in the ceremony. I think little things like that only make for a more memorable day! Although Stephanie and Alan had candles around the altar, they chose to pour sands into a glass vase to signify them joining themselves to each other in such a way that they can never be separated again - I love that! The reception followed inside, where music was provided by Barry Miller, who owns Record Breakers. The beautiful cake was created by Vintage Bakery, which was very yummy by the way!

Wedding at 403 North Lake Events in Lexington, SC - Heather and Justin

Heather and Justin had a beautiful outdoor wedding on October 10th, at 403 North Lake Events, in Lexington South Carolina. They decided to have a time before the ceremony when her and Justin could spend a few moments together, and have some remarkable images created, which would otherwise be impossible. This did two great things for them... First, we had Justin facing my camera as Heather approached him from behind. When she tapped him on his shoulder, he turned to see her for the very first time in her wedding dress, tears began to fill his eyes; this usually does not happen in front of 150 guests!

Sticking to tradition and keeping brides frazzled, afraid that her man might see her before the wedding - I wouldn't pay a dollar for.
Intimate moment where bride and groom can express their thoughts to each other on the day they will be joined as one - PRICELESS!!!

This also allowed Heather and Justin to have all of the formal photographs taken care of before the ceremony! This is a major relief of stress to the couple, and doesn't keep their guests waiting for their entrance to the reception.

The ceremony was simply beautiful and also included the parents of the bride and groom. Music at the reception was provided by Sound Quest DJ's. Some of my favorite images created, were when Heather was dancing with her dad and I could see him crying. I feel like I can already relate in some small way, even though my daughter's are very young.

Wedding at Bellview Baptist Church in Laurens, SC - Jessica & Kyle

Jessica and Kyle were happily married on September 26th 2009, at Bellview Baptist Church in Laurens, SC. Jessica and her bridesmaids were carrying some beautiful bouquets made by Jessica's mom - Loved the colors! The reception was held a few miles away at the Clinton House. This was our first visit there, and we were impressed by the layout, which provided guests with seperate rooms for dining and dancing! Ribault Catering provided a spectacular display of food, which was wonderful by the way, and the staff was extremely hospitable. The gorgeous cake was created by Gretche's ABS Cakes, in mauldin, SC. We would have liked to created more images outside at the venue, but the weather was just a bit too soggy; but we created some romantic and fun images inside, where everyone was dry and happy. Thanks Kyle and Jessica, for allowing us to be a part of your wedding day!

Family Portrait Session in Greenville South Carolina - The Rameys

We did not photograph Bryan and Amy's wedding ( I will give them a break though, since we were not photographing weddings at the time they were married) I know, I know this is a WEDDING photography blog, and here I am posting images that clearly ARE NOT wedding related - so sue me! Kristen and Justin - After Wedding Session at The Lazy Goat (Greenville,SC)

Miranda and I photographed Kristen and Justin's wedding back in May; it was a spectacular wedding! During the reception, when we wanted to step outside for some fun romantic images of just the bride and groom, it was a no go : ( Between Justin dancing like a crazy man, and the already warm temperature in the room, he was just drenched in sweat! Little did we all know that some time later Justin would be attending a friends wedding, so what did the couple do... you might ask? Kristen called me up and asked if I would do a session of them - she would get her wedding dress on, and Justin was already renting a tux for his friend's wedding. Session on!!!
We met at The Lazy Goat restaurant near downtown Greenville, SC and did the session there. Lots of fun ; )

Jennifer and Dennis - Outdoor wedding in Iva, South Carolina

Jennifer and Dennis had a small but beautiful wedding on August 22nd, in Iva, South Carolina. Although it does still get quite hot in August around here, the weather was perfect, with a little help from a gentle breeze. The ceremony and reception were both located at the Parker Bowie Pavilion, an outdoor venue with beautiful surroundings. Jennifer's choice of footwear was a pair of brown cowgirl boots, and she was brought to the wedding location by her father, who was driving a John Deere tractor! The evening light was a nice touch for images following the ceremony, and I was able to create a few neat images of the wedding party using reflections from the pond. Jennifer and Dennis are honeymooning in Charleston for a few days, but I know that Jennifer will be heading to a computer to see her images as soon as I call. I hear that she is quite a photography nut! Kinda like someone else I know ; )

Katrina and AJ [ Engagement Session - Downtown Greenville, South Carolina ]

We got together with AJ and Katrina for their engagement session in downtown Greenville last Saturday evening. Despite some serious evening-in-July humidity, they toughed it out and we walked all over downtown to get some great photos. In case anyone heard about it, yes, that was me knocking down innocent people with the big light stand that I was carrying around! Not really, but another hour or so, and it would have happened for sure. We always enjoy our sessions downtown, because there is such a variety of settings to use as a backdrop. We think we got some really nice of photos of the very happy couple, and were able to realize our mutual love of Scrubs (TV show) and shelter dogs. AJ and Katrina were a great couple to work with, and we are looking forward to their March wedding.

Sarah and Chris [ Engagement Session at Falls Park, Greenville South Carolina ]

Joan and Monty - Wedding in Greer, South Carolina

Joan and Monty were married on July 25th in Greer, SC. They had a small, intimate ceremony held basically in their back yard near the lake. Joan's father began the ceremony by reading a passage of scripture from the Bible. The mood was very casual and relaxed, and the ceremony seemed to have an organic feel to it, as Monty and Joan even made a couple of ceremony decisions on the fly. Monty is a guitar instructor, and preforming musician, so it was very fitting when he serenaded his new bride with a sweet song on their wedding day. After the ceremony, we headed down to the lake, where I captured a romantic image of the newlyweds in the same spot where they first kissed!

Elisabeth & Jay [Wedding at Prince of Peace Catholic Church Taylors, SC - Reception at Greer City Hall]

It was such a pleasure to photograph Elisabeth and Jay on the wedding day! We first had the opportunity to work with them early last fall on their engagement photos and have since gotten to know them better; we are glad to call them our friends. Their wedding ceremony was held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Taylors, SC, which was a beautiful church to work in, with lots of big windows that provided great natural light. The reception followed at the new Greer City Hall. It was our first time there, and thought it was a great reception location. One of my favorite things about it was being able to step just outside to the fountain located in the park, perfect for a nice mini photo session! And, this wedding blog post, just wouldn't be complete without mentioning Elisabeth and Jay's wonderful family and friends. Everyone was so warm and welcoming to us, they made us feel like part of the family.

Linda and Ernest [ 25th wedding anniversary ] Charleston Place Hotel ( Charleston, South Carolina )

Linda and Ernest allowed Miranda and I to be a part of a truly remarkable milestone in their lives together. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 11th, at the Charleston Place Hotel, in Charleston, South Carolina. They held a black and white ball; our very first time covering an all black tie event! While the guests were arriving and enjoying a cocktail hour, we took advantage of the grandeur of the hotel, both inside and out, and got some great images of Ernest and Linda along with their two beautiful daughters. Linda had a band come all the way down from Atlanta, MoSol, and this group had it going on. Being a musician myself, I always favor live music versus a DJ set-up (no offense to my DJ friends), but this group was certainly the best that I have experienced. It is wonderful to have worked for such a truly wonderful couple; you can tell that they are very much still in love; I would love to be there in the future photographing their 50th anniversary!

Paula and David - Aldersgate Methodist Church. Reception at the Loft at Soby's

Paula & David were married at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Greenville, South Carolina. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photographs in the chapel during the actual ceremony, but we were able to take three photos through a small window, which actually turned out pretty cool. Not really a perspective we would have gotten otherwise….
The reception followed at Soby's Loft in downtown Greenville. The live jazz music was wonderful, and the food was gorgeous! Soby's not only knows how cook a delicious meal, but their presentation is fantastic! After dinner, Paula & David cut their cupcake (how cool!) and we were able to go upstairs to the roof for a few images at sunset.

Connie & Steven - Wedding and Reception at Hyatt Hotel. Greenville, South Carolina

Connie & Steven's wedding and reception were held at the Hyatt in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Connie got ready in a beautiful suite overlooking the Hyatt Plaza deck, where the Main Street Jazz performance was taking place. And just a few floors down , the intimate ceremony was performed by a close friend of Steven and Connie. I was impressed that at such a relatively small reception, there were some very talented dancers! I saw moves that I had never even heard of, and some that I've only seen on television: "the lawnmower, the sprinkler, back the bus up, the shopping cart, and my favorite, the fishing pole". I was totally impressed and a little envious! Later on, the guests helped us out by starting the bubble blowing a little early, during Connie and Steven's last dance. I think it made for some really cool photos.

Katie and Chip - Wedding at Reedy Fork Bapt Church ( Greenville, SC) Reception at Thornblade Country Club (Greer, SC)

We visited three golf courses on June 13th while covering Katie and Chip's wedding; the first was at Bonnie Brae, where Chip and several groups of fellas played 18 holes. At the same time, the girls were at the Greenville Country Club for a bridal luncheon, and the reception followed the ceremony at yet another club. What a terrific couple Katie and Chip are!Their wedding ceremony was held at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, in Greenville , South Carolina. It was really clear to us what this wedding was all about – Katie and Chip celebrating the beginning of their life together, and sharing that celebration with their very close-knit family and friends! It was great to see just how important their loved ones are to them, and it was evident in so many ways. The reception followed in Greer, at the Thornblade Country Club, where the newlyweds danced, cut cake, gave a short speech, and were carried off in a white Rolls Royce! Katie and Chip clearly have a deep love for one another and an amazing group of family and friends.

Brianne & Javin - Beautiful Outdoor wedding in Tryon, North Carolina

Brianne and Javin were married on Friday, June 5th, at Rogers Park, located in Tryon, NC. The look of the skies, combined with the rain I drove through on my way to the park made me almost certain that it would pour at some point during the ceremony (not too great for wedding photography) - but I was wrong! Not even a drop of rain. Brianne and Javin decided to meet before the ceremony to better capture the expressions on their faces when the first saw each other on their wedding day. It's a marvelous thing to watch a couple react and interact openly when the bride gently taps her groom on his shoulder, and he turns to see her in her dress for the very first time, just before they become husband and wife. Often times emotions can be surpressed by of all of the guests watching, but this"alone time" allows us to really get a glimpse into what the couple is feeling when they first see each other. I think that it makes for some very special moments together, as well as beautiful and meaningful photographs that otherwise wouldn't be possible!

The ceremony was both beautiful and moving; the pastor talked about two lives that are now one, and a life that is centered around God and His plan for us. I was genuinely impressed by the decorating at the reception, which was held at a church fellowship hall; the decor featured bright, fun colors, and a marvelous overhead draping of white linen. In a few words, the wedding was short, simple, sweet, and so beautiful!

Caroline & Philippe - Wedding at USC - Reception at Seibels House in Columbia, SC

And the winner is……

The award for "most frequent flyer miles accumulated by a wedding party" goes to…… the Rolshausen's! Caroline and Philippe's family and friends came from far and wide to join this couple in celebrating their marriage. Many of the wedding party and guests traveled from France, Caroline's sister and mother came from Hawaii, and Caroline and Philippe traveled from California for their wedding, which was held in the Rutledge Chapel on the University of South Carolina campus. The ceremony was beautiful, and was performed in both English and French, which made it especially romantic (as well as practical, for all of the French guests).
Caroline and Philippe then traveled via horse-drawn carriage to the reception at the Seibels House in downtown Columbia. What a lovely location! In addition to the main house, which is believed to be the oldest house in Columbia, there are beautiful flower gardens and palm trees surrounding the property. When it comes t odancing, the award for "best dance moves" has to go Dr. Gabriel Paulino (Gabi); he could definitely have a career in music videos. Everyone was cheering as he "tore up the floor" with his routine. The bride and groom were sent off through a cloud of smoke from a LOT of sparklers at the end of the evening to say goodbye.

We started the day off at Wisteria salon and spa, where Kristen and all the girls were having their hair and makeup done. It was clear from the moment we saw her that Kristen was just plain excited to be marrying Justin. After hair and makeup was done (beautifully, by the way!!) we headed to the Greenville Marriott for lunch and some more photo opportunities.

Then, time to get married!

The ceremony was held in the beautiful sanctuary at Mauldin United Methodist church. The reception followed back at the Marriott. And if you haven't been there since the recent renovations, the Marriott is gorgeous, with unique colored lighting in the lobby and ballrooms. (It reminded me of those elaborate weddings you see on TV where people actually hire a company to design the lighting of the reception.)

The day was definitely full of emotion! When Kristen and her dad danced to "It won't be like this for long" by Darius Rucker, I was trying to hold back the tears. But when it came time to party, I have to say this group knew how to have fun! The dance floor was packed all night and this crowd knew how to boogie! It was obvious that everyone had a fantastic time celebrating Kristen and Justin beginning their lives together.

Kristen's bridal session - downtown Greenville

Good things come to those who wait!
We were beginning to wonder whether Kristen's bridal session was going to have to happen after her wedding! It seemed that every time we made plans, something was getting in the way. The weather turned out bad, and travel and illness kept pushing the date further out. But finally, just 11 days before Kristen's wedding, we got it all planned out! We would meet downtown, and take some beautiful images of her in downtown Greenville and use the waterfall in the background. All day long, the partly cloudy skies made us wonder if it would happen. We planned to meet and try to beat the approaching thunderstorm.
We had just gotten started when the rain began. We ran under cover and Kristen didn't get a drop on her dress, but now we needed a new idea. Kristen and her mom were up for anything and Kristen was as happy as a bride could possibly be while wearing her wedding dress in a thunderstorm. The Lazy Goat restaurant was right beside us, and they allowed us to come in and photograph her there. Things couldn't have turned out better! Their gorgeous stairwell and sitting area downstairs made a great setting. We think that the photographs turned out fantastically and we're so glad that the weather didn't cause us to call it off! Maybe The Lazy Goat will let us do our next bridal session there on purpose!

Alex & Ryan - Wedding at the Citadel, in Charleston, SC

Alex and Ryan's wedding was our very first time to visit the Citadel and we were not disappointed! The chapel there was designed in 14th century Gothic style and is truly magnificent, adorned with high ceilings, beautiful stained glass windows, and lots of candles. It was one of the most beautiful churches we have ever been in. The Citadel traditions were also a lot of fun; Ryan's uncle, who also attended there, brought his own saber to use for the saber arch. Ryan and Alex's expressions were priceless when she got the swat!
The reception was held at the Citadel alumni center and had a super live band called The Coppertones. Peggy, the very talented mother of the bride, arranged all of the gorgeous centerpieces and bouquets; I imagine that she will be dreaming about calla lilies and hydrangeas for the next few weeks.
We always love a Charleston wedding ceremony! Thank you so much to the Hamilton and Dorr families for making us feel so welcome and allowing us to share such a important day with you guys!

We also enjoyed the chance to attend the rehearsal dinner the night before. It was held at the Charleston Yacht Club.

Troup and Heather - Wedding Photography at Pawleys Island, South Carolina

Troup and Heather had a beautiful wedding at Pawley’s Plantation in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina! We had a fun time working with this great couple! They were up for anything; one of our favorite photographs of Heather was taken in the strangest of places…and she still looked stunning! One of Ron's favorite things to photograph is the wedding cake, and this one was remarkable! The seashells and ribbon decorating the pound were all made of fondant, and completely edible - and looked TOTALLY REAL!

Latitude, a great husband and wife group, provided great live music at the reception and kept everyone out on the floor dancing. We enjoyed experimenting with new flash techniques while guests were tearing up the dance floor, and think these turned out pretty cool.

Troup and Heather, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your day, we had a blast! It meant so much to us that we were trusted to photograph your big day, especially with the number of photography enthusiast's in your family. Hope you love the images!

The Rameys - Family Portrait Photography in Greenville, SC

Brad and Lyndsay Ramey were one of the first couples that we photographed; we have had the pleasure of working with them for their engagement session, wedding, and now family photos. They now have two adorable little boys, Noah (who is almost 2) and Cole (only 4 weeks old). The beautiful setting was found right in their backyard, literally! (Well, also their neighbor's backyard). Noah did a great job smiling for the camera, and after all the hard work of sitting still and smiling, he really enjoyed playing some golf and baseball with his dad while we took some more candid images.
It is always a joy to get to spend time with this beautiful family and see how God is blessing and using them. Brad and Lyndsay have a passion to share God's love with the people of Guyana, a small, remote country in South America (in case you're geography is as rusty as ours). They have been on several trips there and their next project will be in June when Brad will be returning with a group to build a church. Engagement Photography - Katie and Chip

What a great way to kick off the wedding season! We had a great time getting to photograph (and getting to know) Chip and Katie this past Saturday. They are a terrific couple, wonderfully easy going, fun, and clearly very much in love.We started the day off at Katie’s family’s home in Pelzer, South Carolina. The surroundings provided a beautiful backdrop with which to photograph them, and Hank and Abby as well, their chocolate labs. Then, we moved on to downtown Greenville, where we captured some more fun images, and got a nice walk in as well. Fortunately, Miranda narrowly missed being hit by a car (thanks for your quick reaction time mystery driver – I’ll pay better attention next time!) and we finished up the photo session near a parking garage overlooking downtown.

We’re looking forward to working with Chip and Katie and their families again soon on their wedding day in June!

Alex's Bridal Portrait Session

Miranda and I traveled to the Kilgore-Lewis House near downtown Greenville to try to create some beautiful images for Alex, whose wedding we will be covering this summer. The interior rooms made for some classic portraits, and the outside of the home provided a great backdrop. Alex chose a beautiful dress that looked stunning on her; I know her fiance, Ryan will be overwhelmed when he sees her on their wedding day! We are looking forward to capturing some awesome images for them on their wedding day at the Citadel, in Charleston South Carolina this May!

Lacey & Brandon

Lacey & Brandon were married on October 25th, 2008 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Blacksburg, South Carolina. The beautiful autumn day provided an excellent setting for a picture perfect wedding! The church was gorgeous both inside and out, and was decorated with wedding details in autumn splendor. But, at the ceremony, I felt a little like Michael Knight if KITT refused to talk to him, since I wasn't allowed to photograph the service. But, I stood in the back, with my camera in hand, dying to press the shutter. Fortunately, we got some great photographs afterwards, and I think that the story was still conveyed with some beautiful, romantic images of the couple too.

At the reception, Brandon hit the stage, playing guitar with his former band from Charleston, SC. These guys rocked the house! When Brandon told me that he would be playing at the reception, I had no idea that he would be modern version of the great Stevie Ray Vaughn! Wisteria Salon & Spa - Charity Event

Wisteria Salon & SKIRT magazine hosted a charity event on October 30th, 2008, to raise money to benefit research for breast cancer initiatives. Proceeds will be distributed to the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center. Aside from having a cool party, complete with costumes, wine, and cake, guests were entertained by local music artist Brad Crowe.

Sally & Garrick

Sally and Garrick's wedding day began early at Dillard's department store at the Westgate Mall in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where Sally and the girls were having their make up done. Once make up was complete, it was time to head down the road to Scissors Palace to get the hair styled for the big day. The wedding was held at Walnut Hill Baptist Church in Campobello, SC, a small town church that reminded me of home when I walked through the doors. Sally and Garrick's family and friends filled the church for the wedding ceremony. Afterward, the newlyweds were taken to the entrance of Woodfin Ridge Country Club, by way of a romantic horse and carriage, just as the sun began to set. The Woodfin Ridge Golf Course was a great setting for the reception, with spacious rooms for food and dancing, as well as a patio and bar area for the guests to mingle. The location holds a special significance to Sally because it is her family's business as well. The rest of the evening was filled with music and dancing with friends and family. It was truly a celebration of the union between Garrick and Sally, and the joining of their families as well.

Alex & Ryan

We were so exited to photograph Alex and Ryan’s engagement session on the beach in Charleston. We read up about which beaches would be the best setting and planned for a beautiful sunset backdrop.

Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and it was pouring down rain in Charleston when we arrived. But, since we had all come from out of town, Alex and Ryan were up for Plan B! Ryan is a graduate of the Citadel, so he knew just where to go for some romantic pictures in the rain.

Even though it wasn’t the beach, the beautiful palm trees, cobblestone streets, and historic storefronts in Charleston made a gorgeous and unique setting. There is something so classically romantic about kissing under an umbrella in the rain; I think we might just have to do it on purpose next time!

And we have to give Alex a gold star for her convincing smile, even though she was freezing! We had a great time getting to know Alex and Ryan a little better after the photo session and can’t wait to photograph their wedding on the Citadel campus next May!

Cristin and Matthew’s beautiful wedding definitely had a great close-family feel to it! The wedding took place at Matt’s parents home on a farm in Fountain Inn, SC. It was really special to be able to photograph the couple and their wedding party preparing for the day in the very home that Matt grew up in. The home was the perfect setting for some beautiful portraits, from the balcony and the fountain in the front of the house, to the spacious land in the back, it was truly unique! And to top off a wonderful night, we all enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display.

Both sets of parents were extremely welcoming and you could really tell that they were all thrilled about the union of Cristin and Matt. It was really a pleasure to work with them all and share in their memorable day!

Nick and Mally were married on September 20th at the Markley Chapel, which is a part of Christ Church, in Greenville, SC. We were able to get some great images prior to the ceremony using the beautiful church as a backdrop. The newlyweds were whisked away to the reception by was of a beautiful classic car - a white Packard! The reception was full of happy guests congratulating the bride and groom, but the highlight of the evening was a serenade preformed by none other than the man himself. Nick did an awesome job! Beautiful wedding, beautiful reception, beautiful couple!

Zac & Jeanna

Zac and Jeanna are such a neat couple! I gained this knowledge before I even photographed their wedding, because I had the opportunity to photograph their engagement session as well as Jeanna's bridal portraits. With all of the driving between the couple and I (almost 6 hours round trip), I have to say it was well worth the effort because we got to know each other quite a bit, and I think they will be very happy with all of the images we were able to capture.

The wedding was held at Warren Baptist Church in Martinez, Georgia and the reception took place down the road a bit at the Marion Hatcher Center in Augusta.

Chris & Kristen

From the time my wife and I did Chris & Kristen's engagement session, we just knew their wedding was going to be a blast. Not to brag, but, boy, were we right! We started out the day at Wisteria Salon & Spa, where Kristen and the girls got their hair and makeup done. Then we joined Chris at Embassy Suites, where he was hanging out by the pool with a few of the guys. The couple had two rooms available, so we were able to capture the bride and groom contemplating the ceremony, and getting dressed to be joined in marriage. The groom and the bride were taken separately by limo to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church; the sanctuary and ceremony were beautiful; both in aesthetic and spiritual value too.

After Chris and Kristen became husband and wife, they were taken back to Embassy Suites, where the reception was to be held. We had a little time to kill, so we were able to get some great images of the wedding party during the cocktail hour. All I can really say is, that the reception was AWESOME! Everyone had a great time, and thanks to the Master of Ceremonies, Rob Clark, the focus of the evening rested solely on the newlyweds. Oh, don't get the wrong idea, there was indeed a MAJOR PARTY going on, but everyone remembered why we were all there - to celebrate the love that Chris and Kristen have for each other.

Kristi & Jeff

Kristi and Jeff were married at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin, South Carolina. The ceremony included special singing by Lynda Randall, a long time friend of the bride, who actually is currently a member of the world renowned gospel band, the Gaithers. The couple also incorporated a time of Holy Communion within the ceremony to reflect on their relationship with Christ. When the newlyweds exited the church they were taken by trolley to Embassy Suites, where the reception was held. The evening was filled with good conversations, music, dancing, and lots of smiles. They will be living in Illinois, where Jeff is from.

I received a call from Scott Buckhiester, the manager of Dunburks, which is a premier event venue in Easley, South Carolina. He wanted me to photograph the location for promotional materials and use on their website. When I arrived, everything was set up for a wedding rehearsal dinner, and I must say that I was very impressed. Jenny & Barry

Jenny & Barry had a beautiful and unique wedding held at Occasions At Wedgefield, located in Central, SC. From incorporating their beautiful baby girl, Mia, into the ceremony, to everyone singing "That's Amore" while they cut the cake, and finally, having a Nuernberg Bridal Cup to perform a German wedding toast. Even the vows the couple exchanged were unique only to them, because they each wrote their own. The music played at the reception was tastefully tailored for the guests enjoyment, and the the newleyweds danced the night away until they exited into a shower of bubbles, only to be carried away in a stretched limousine. Wow... what a day ; )

Oh yes, I think my wife and I did capture some spectacular images along the way too ( If I do say so myself )

Stephanie & Jason had a beautiful wedding at the First Baptist Church of Aiken, SC. The couple and their families had plenty of hospitality and charm to go along with the stereotype of the town. The church was simply stunning both inside and out, which provided a perfect backdrop for some great images! After the ceremony the newlyweds were carried away via horse and carriage, which seems only fitting; considering the equine history that "is" the town of Aiken. At the reception, all of us were entertained by a super cool live band; these guys were GREAT! Later in the evening I was able to get the couple away for just a few minutes to capture some intimate images of them alone.

Jennine & Ryan chose be wed on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, where they incorporated some spectacular locations into their wedding day! We started out by capturing some great images of the wedding party and family at the Main Street Inn, which featured beautiful architecture and exquisite landscaping. Then off we went to Islander's Beach where the ceremony was held, and ended the evening at an exclusive waterfront venue, Windows On the Waterway. Everyone who attended was so nice and really enjoyed being a part of the marriage celebration of Jennine and Ryan. I felt privileged to be a part of their big day!

Becca & Tim

Becca and Tim hit the road early for the hour and a half drive to Pearson's falls in Saluda, North Carolina. Good thing we got there early too, because we had the falls all to ourselves for the first half an hour. Becca and Tim love the outdoors so much, they knew a waterfall would make the perfect backdrop for their engagement photos. You may think it was a scorching 100 degrees when you see the images of the couple splashing about, but it was actually a cool spring morning. Don't be concerned, I did not force them into the stream or say they had to splash each other with the chilling water, they were just having some fun! Since the couple spotted a baby turtle swimming in the water with them, I will conclude with this ancient Chinese proverb...
"He who sees a turtle at their engagement session is destined for a long and prosperous marriage".

Kristen & Chris

Kristen seemed to have a sixth sense about the impending rainstorm; I could sense the urgency written all over her face that said "get the show on the road" FAST as she exited her car. Despite the threat of rain to put their engagement session to an abrupt halt, Chris and Kristen stayed calm and focused on the task at hand. They had to get some spectacular images and they had to have fun doing it - whether they liked it or not. We sure did have some fun, as you can clearly see in many of the images. What I wasn't expecting though, was when Chris and Kristen got into their "model" mode and took the photo shoot to a whole new level; yes, we're talking major "Blue Steel" here that even Ben Stiller would need to take notes on.

As for Kristen's feeling about the weather, she turned out to be dead on when the final clicks of the shutter sounded. Rain washed down from the sky all at once leaving us stranded under a nearby bridge for a short while. Luckily for us all, Kristen had some bottled water just in case a situation like this came about. She seems like someone who is always prepared for any situation. I wouldn't know for sure, but her purse may have also contained a few emergency blankets, various food rations, roll of duct tape, a pop-up tent, flashlights, gauze, rope, splints, and a couple of flare guns - I'm only guessing.

I don't think I have ever been more moved in a wedding ceremony before! Warren and Beth's devotion to God and each other resounded in everything that took place on their wedding day. Their story tells of a love that was willing to wait and trust God to bring the right one along, a faithfulness that doesn't place each other on a pedestal higher than their Lord and Savior - Jesus Christ, and a promise to forever work together to fulfill God's purpose wherever they may go. I believe this is marriage as it was intended to be, and it's foundation is stronger than anything else we could ever build upon. Beth will be moving to join Warren in his ministry where he resides in Australia.

Matt & Jo Ann

Jo Ann and Matt brought friends and family from around the U.S. and from across the ocean to Murrells Inlet, SC to celebrate their union in marriage. The ceremony was held at the magnificent Wachesaw Plantation which holds a truly pristine golf course as well as many spectacular homes. The couple allowed me to spend a couple of hours with them both before the ceremony, so I was able to get some great images that would have otherwise been impossible. Despite stormy skies at the time of the ceremony, paired with the antique car stalling when taking the bride to be walked down the aisle, the day went very well and the couple remained optimistic and had fun right through it all.

Holly & Mark

Holly & Mark were married on February 29th ( Oh Yes, that was a leap year wedding!! ) in Downtown Greenville at Soby's Loft. The number of guests attending the wedding was limited to only the closest family and friends of the couple, which provided a very intimate and comfortable setting. One thing that greatly added to the relaxed atmosphere was due to the fact that Holly and Mark chose to see each other before the ceremony. This provided an opportunity to get all of the "formal" photography out of the way before the ceremony began, which allowed the couple to immediately join their guests for the reception. Holly told me that her and Mark loved to have fun and be a little crazy at times, so we had to get a great image that reflected that; can you guess which one it is?
